About Masai Mara Wildebeest Migration
The Masai Mara Great Wildebeest Migration: A Summary
Nature's spectacle: Every year, the Masai Mara becomes the stage for one of the most incredible wildlife migrations on Earth. More than 2 million wildebeest, along with zebra and gazelle, embark on a clockwise circular journey across the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem, covering vast distances in search of greener pastures and water.
Driven by rain: This epic trek isn't random; it's triggered by East Africa's rainy seasons. The wildebeest follow the freshest grazing and water sources, adapting their route based on unpredictable rainfall patterns.
Key stages:
- July-August: Herds move north into the central Serengeti, with some crossing the crocodile-infested Mara River in a dramatic spectacle.
- August-October: They reach the lush plains of the Masai Mara, a crucial time for calving and predator encounters.
- November-February: The herds gradually head south back into the Serengeti as the landscape dries up.
Witnessing the wonder: The best time to see the migration in the Masai Mara is July to October, offering peak predator-prey interactions and potential river crossings. However, nature holds the reins, and the exact timing can vary depending on the rains.
More than just numbers: This awe-inspiring event showcases the resilience of life, the intricate balance of predator and prey, and the raw power of nature. It's a journey filled with drama, survival, and breathtaking moments.

Feel free to capture a few pictures before we continue our journey.
At 1 PM, enjoy lunch at one of the popular tourist restaurants in Narok and proceed to Maasai Mara, arriving no later than 3 PM for our initial evening game drive.
